Maya Swaggerty is a freshman at J H Rose and this is her first semester taking Journalism. She joined Journalism because she loves reading and writing. As an eighth grader, she went to an open house where she talked to the current editors and read some articles from the website. She was very interested in the process and class and decided to sign up. She also talked to friends that had taken the class in the past and they all strongly recommended it. At Rose she participates in FBLA and SGA. She is also on the Rose JV volleyball team. In her free time, she enjoys reading, drawing, travel volleyball, and hanging out with friends. She is also on the Pitt County FTC robotics team, “PiRates,” where she is the head of marketing and outreach. She is unsure what career she would like to pursue but is interested in the teaching and medical fields. She also enjoys working at her dad’s business where she does screen printing and graphic design.
