Rose Senior Narkievon Tyson recently started Nark’s Outreach Program on Feb 13, 2021. This program was created to help people who live in the Greenville/WInterville area.

“My goal is to make sure that everybody in Greenville, North Carolina who needs help is taken care of, [and] that they don't have to worry too much about how they are going to make it... and things like that,” Tyson said.

Throughout Tyson’s life, he has seen his family members helping others who are in need and it made him realize that he wanted to start a program that could make a difference.

“Before I started my program, ...[my cousins and I] would stay out all night... [and] we would give food [out],” Tyson said. “That's kind of how I started and then eventually I decided to make it into my own program.”

Tyson began his journey by helping his cousin, Carnell Burney, in their church, New Mercies Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Tyson was inspired by his cousin who always helped people around the community.

He loved seeing people who “truly need help, get that help.” He was initially inspired to implement the program after observing the pandemic's impact on his community and neighborhood.

People will typically reach out to the Nark’s Outreach Program if there is someone that they know who is in need of help.

“We aren't picky about who we help,” Tyson said. “The only time we're picky is making sure that before we help anyone we know that they are truly in need.”

Tyson started his program after being inspired by family members and friends. Tyson always enjoyed helping people and he thought that making a program solely based around helping others would be a great way to fuel this passion.

“He does the same thing, goes out and helps people and when I saw him do it I was like ‘okay,’ because I'd just never seen anyone do it the same way that I wanted to do it,” Tyson said.

Nark’s Outreach Program has donated to kids in need, he values the well being of children who are in need of food and clothes. His program wants to make sure that these kids get what they need to live comfortably.

Tyson and the program’s volunteers are currently in the process of planning a fundraiser. This fundraiser will include a variety of things, such as, doing car washes and selling food plates. He gets the money for this from donations that are given to the program.

The Nark’s Outreach Program consists of volunteers from various places.

“Some of them are friends of mine, some of them are ECU students, some of them are friends from Rose,” Tyson said. “... I didn't even know this lady but she was donating to us and she is a big supporter of the program.”

Tyson is able to advertise his outreach program through various social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. You can find more information about Tyson's outreach program on his instagram page which can be accessed here.
